Hibiscus Coast Water Polo Club

SUNDAY NIGHT LEAGUE - GENERAL INFORMATION

AIMS

The Hibiscus Coast Waterpolo League is run by the Hibiscus Coast Waterpolo Club on Sunday's during the school terms at The Leisure Centre, Brightside Road, Stanmore Bay.

The aims of the Sunday League are to provide a fun and exciting opportunity for children and their parents to develop their water and ball skills by playing flippa ball and waterpolo in a mildly competitive format. The league provides the club with its talent and encourages participation in the sport on the Hibiscus Coast.

Local Schools and Community organisations from the northern suburbs of Auckland enter teams into the various competitions. Club members provide the refereeing services, whilst also, along with the Parents, man the tables.

The Competitions are run on a round robin based on a draw conducted at the beginning of the tournament. The format of the leagues depends on the number of teams entered in each division.

Depending on numbers a series of finals are held at the end of the round-robin section in order to determine the final placings.

Grades

We are looking to run a round robin competition in the following grades this year:

  • Year 3-4 Junior Water Polo (Shallow End)
  • Year 5-6 Junior Water Polo (Shallow end)
  • Schools Year 7-8 & club U12 Water polo (Deep end)
  • Schools Water Polo Year 9-13 (Deep end)
  • Social Water Polo (Deep end)

As we have done in the past the schools and social waterpolo may combine depending on the team numbers. If this happens we would split this into social and competitive teams.

Teams composition:

  • Junior Water polo teams playing in the shallow end are composed of 6 field players and 1 goalie with any number of substitution players.
  • Year 7 & 8 School and club u12 water polo are composed of 5 field players and 1 goalie with a bench of substitution players.
  • Year 9-13 school and Social water polo teams follow the fast 5 rules and have 4 field players and one goalie and bench of substitution players.

Costs

The cost of competition is based on the number of games scheduled to be played and an administration cost.

These costs cover the hireage of the pool, life guards, referees, pool controller and contribute towards maintenance of the equipment.

If you do find yourself short of players, do still come along as there are always others willing to jump in for another game, and we will do our best to ensure everyone who wants to play, gets a game.
